Connie Kraus is a pharmacist and Clinical Associate Professor
from the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy. Her clinical practice
is at Wingra Family Medical Center where she works collaboratively
with nurses, physician assistants, a social worker, and family
practice residents and physicians to deliver care to a highly
diverse patient population. Although in a general practice,
she has a special interest in working to improve the care
of Wingra’s patients with diabetes and to provide appropriate
medications to uninsured patients. She teaches women’s
health topics at the School of Pharmacy and coordinates early
clerkship experiences including a service learning clerkship
for all first year Doctor of Pharmacy students. Dr. Kraus
had an opportunity several years ago to go to Ecuador with
a group of health care professionals and students to learn
about health care needs and strategies being used to meet
these needs. This opportunity left a lasting impression about
the importance of collaboration in creating solutions to health
care problems.
“The need for health professionals to work collaboratively
to best serve an increasingly diverse population has never
been greater. The Center for Global Health has a goal to bring
together learners and teachers from different disciplines
to explore health needs and health care from a global perspective.
With campus-based coursework, domestic and international clerkships,
the global health seminar series, and other offerings, students
and faculty on this campus have a wonderful opportunity to
learn about collaborative practice models and the health needs,
beliefs and practices of different populations.”
